What we believe

We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God, written by men (2 Timothy 3:16-17 - "All Scriptures is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.")

Since the Bible is inspired by God, it is our duty as believers to follow the Words of God written within it's pages. The bible is clear that Jesus is the Son of God and that Jesus came to earth, born of the virgin Mary as prophesied about in the Old Testament (Isaiah 7:14 - "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.")

God sent his Son to earth with the purpose of dying on a cross for the sins of the world, so that all who put their trust in him and follow him could have eternal life in Heaven (John 3:16 - "For God so loved the world, that he gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.")

We believe that salvation is a free gift from God, not because of anything we can do or have done, but because of what Jesus Christ has already done for us on the cross. God wants faithful people who are committed to living the life he desires of us. To be committed, we believe, based on the Word of God that one should Hear, Believe, Repent, Confess, Be Baptized, and Be Faithful:

Hear the Gospel
The Gospel is the Good News of Jesus Christ. How can we be committed if we do not first hear the Gospel and lead others to hear the Gospel.
Romans 10:17
"So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ."

Believe or put our Faith in Jesus as the Son of God.
Once we have heard the Gospel, we must put our faith in Jesus as the Son of God. Our belief that Jesus is the Son of God should lead us to live a life committed to living for Him.
Mark 16:15-16
"And he (Jesus) said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to all creation. He who has believes and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned."

John 8:24
"Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am He, you will die in your sins."

Hebrews 11:6
"And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him."

Repent from sin
To repent means that we have a change of mind, a change of heart, a change of action. We admit that we are lost without Christ and that we need to become the person that he desires for us to be. Repentance is a key theme throughout the Word of God and he desires for us to be people are are different than we once were, different from the world.
Acts 2:38
"Peter said to them, Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."

Acts 17:30
"Therefore having overlooked the times of ignorance, God is now declaring to men that all people everywhere should repent"

Luke 3:3,5
"I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish."

Confess publicly that Jesus is the Christ
We believe this is an important step in becoming a Christian. God wants bold people who are willing to make it known that they believe Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. When Jesus asked his disciples who he was it was Peter who said "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God"
in Matthew 16:16.

Matthew 10:32
"Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will confess him before My Father who is in Heaven."

Romans 10:9-10
"That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation."

Be Baptized (immersion) into Christ for the Forgiveness of Sins
On the very day that the Church began in Acts chapter 2, on the Day of Pentecost, the crowd asked what they must do and Peter responded that they needed to repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of their sins. The word used for baptized in the Greek language that the New Testament was written in means to be fully immersed. We are buried in the waters of baptism just as Christ was buried, only to rise again.

Romans 6:4
"Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life."

Acts 2:38
"Peter said to them, Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."

Acts 22:16
"Now why do you delay? Get up and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on His name."

Galatians 3:27
"For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ."

1 Peter 3:21
"Corresponding to that, baptism now saves you - not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience - through the resurrection of Jesus Christ."

Be Faithful to Christ unto death
God is looking for people who are faithful. We are not perfect people, only people who have realized and understand that we need Jesus. Once we become a Christian, we should become rooted in the Word of God so that our faith continues to grow.

Matthew 10:22
"You will be hated by all because of My name, but it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved."

Acts 2:42
"They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer."

Revelation 2:10
"Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold the devil is about to cast some of you into prison, so that you will be tested, and you will have tribulation for ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life."

At Double Creek Church of Christ, we truly believe the Bible to be the inspired Word of God and our duty is to make known the truths within it's pages. We invite all to come and see for themselves the LOVE that takes place within the walls of this congregation. This love is not only evident within the walls of our building, but in our community and to the world around us.
